West Bengal Assembly Elections
The Legislative Assembly of West Bengal, also known as the West Bengal Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 294 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Kolkata, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in West Bengal were held in April 2021.

- The West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections in 2021 had 2,116 candidates contesting for 294 seats, compared to 1,961 candidates in the 2016 Assembly elections.
- The number of candidates contesting the West Bengal Assembly elections has been rising for the last 4 consecutive elections - a cumulative growth of 28% between 2006 and 2021 Assembly elections.
- A record 59 political parties contested the 2021 Assembly elections, in comparison to 55 parties in the 2016 Assembly elections.
- 48 of the 59 parties secured less than or equal to 0.1% votes individually and only 0.5% of total votes cast in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
- West Bengal had 72.9 million registered voters (electors) in the 2021 Assembly elections, in comparison to 65.9 million registered voters in 2016.
- 81.6% of the voters exercised their franchise in the 2021 Assembly elections, a 1.1% drop over the 2016 Assembly elections. The men and women voter turnout was at similar levels at 81.4% and 81.8% respectively.
