The Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh, also known as the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 230 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Bhopal, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were held in Nov 2023.

- The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections in 2018 saw 2,534 candidates contesting for 230 seats, a 12.6% decrease over the 2018 Assembly elections.
- 107 political parties contested the 2023 Assembly elections, in comparison to 120 parties in the 2018 Assembly elections.
- The huge number of political parties contesting the 2023 elections fueled claims from many factions of the polity and society, that these new parties are created as 'fronts' just to help the electoral prospects of specific political parties by cutting into the opposition votes. The claims were supported by the fact that 97 of the 107 parties secured less than or equal to 0.1% votes individually and only 0.8% of total votes cast in the 2023 Assembly elections collectively.
- Madhya Pradesh had 56.1 million registered voters (electors) in the 2023 Assembly elections, in comparison to 50.5 million registered voters in 2018.
- 77.7% of the voters exercised their franchise in the 2023 Assembly elections, a 2.7% increase over the 2018 Assembly elections. The voter turnout for men at 78% was more than that of women at 76.1%.
- The voter turnout in Madhya Pradesh has been increasing over the last 4 Assembly elections, showing the growing interest in its residents to participate in the democratic process.
