The Legislative Assembly of Goa, also known as the Goa Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 40 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Porvorim.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Goa were held in Feb 2022.

  • 3 of the 13 parties secured less than 0.1% votes individually and 0.2% votes collectively in the 2022 Assembly elections.

  • Goa had 1.2 million registered voters (electors) in the 2022 Assembly elections, in comparison to 1.1 million registered voters in 2017.
  • 79.6% of the voters exercised their franchise in the 2022 Assembly elections, a 1.6% drop over the 2017 Assembly elections. The women's voter turnout of 81% was higher than the men's turnout of 78.2%.
  • The total voter turnout in Goa Assembly elections has increased significantly since the 2007 Assembly elections, moving up from 70.5% in 2007 to 79.6% in 2022. This is one of the highest across all states in India and shows growing concern and awareness amongst Goans about the importance of exercising their franchise in improving Goa's socio-economic conditions.
