The Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra, also known as the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha, is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Maharashtra. It consists of 288 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Mumbai, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Maharashtra were held in Oct 2019.

- The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections in 2019 saw 3,237 candidates contesting for 288 seats.
- In comparison, the 2014 Assembly elections had 4,119 candidates, 21% higher than in 2019.
- A record 126 political parties contested the 2019 Assembly elections, in comparison to 91 parties in the 2014 Assembly elections.
- 106 of the 126 parties secured less than or equal to 0.1% votes individually and only 1% of total votes cast in the 2019 Assembly elections collectively. Of these, 73 parties were new political outfits who had never contested any Assembly elections.
- Maharashtra had 89.8 million registered voters (electors) in the 2019 Assembly elections, in comparison to 83.5 million voters in 2014.
- Only 61.1% of the voters exercised their franchise in the 2019 Assembly elections, a 2% drop over the 2014 Assembly elections. The men's voter turnout of 62.8% was higher than women's turnout of 59.3%.
- The total voter turnout in Maharashtra Assembly elections is currently amongst the lowest of all states in India
