The Legislative Assembly of Gujarat, also known as the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 182 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Gandhinagar, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Gujarat were held in Dec 2017.

- The Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections in 2022 saw 1,621 candidates contesting for 182 seats, in comparison to 1,828 candidates in the 2017 Assembly elections.



- 71 political parties contested the 2022 Assembly elections, in comparison to 66 parties in the 2017 Assembly elections.
- 64 of the 71 parties secured less than or equal to 0.1% votes individually and 1.1% votes collectively in the 2022 Assembly elections.



- Gujarat had 49.2 million registered voters (electors) in the 2022 Assembly elections, in comparison to 43.5 million registered voters in 2017.
- Only 64.3% of the voters exercised their franchise in the 2022 Assembly elections, a 4% drop over the 2017 Assembly elections. The men's voter turnout of 66.7% was higher than the women's turnout of 61.8%.
- The total voter turnout in Gujarat Assembly elections remains lower than most other states in India and shows a lack of concern and awareness amongst Gujarat residents about the importance of exercising their franchise in improving Gujarat's socio-economic conditions.
