The Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand, also known as the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 70 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Dehradun, the interim capital of the state.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Uttarakhand were held in Mar 2022.

The 5th Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand formed post the elections held in Mar 2022 consists of 70 MLAs. BJP won a thumping majority in the 2022 Assembly elections, winning 47 of the 70 votes (67% of all seats) to form the government.

  • BJP currently has a total of 47 MLAs in the Uttarakhand Assembly giving it control over 67% of the total seats in the Assembly
  • INC has 19 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
  • All other parties and independent MLAs together account for 4 seats
