The Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh, also known as the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 230 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Bhopal, the capital of the state.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were held in Nov 2023.

The 16th Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh formed post the elections held in Nov 2023 consists of 230 MLAs. BJP got a landslide victory by winning 163 seats while the INC got 63 seats. Subsequently, there were a few changes in the assembly composition based on the bye-elections held in specific constituencies.

  • BJP now has 163 MLAs in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly giving it control over 71% of the total seats in the Assembly
  • INC has 66 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
  • All other parties and independent MLAs together account for 1 seat
