The Legislative Assembly of Chhattisgarh, also known as the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 90 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Raipur, the capital of the state.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh were held in Nov 2023.

The 6th Legislative Assembly of Chhattisgarh formed post the elections held in Nov 2018 consists of 90 MLAs. INC (Indian National Congress) won by a landslide majority in the 2018 Assembly elections, securing 68 of the 90 seats, taking them comfortably past the majority mark of 46 seats to form the government. There were subsequent changes in the Lok Sabha with some MLAs switching party loyalties and bye-elections held due to the death of some MLAs.

  • BJP has the largest majority with 53 MLAs thereby giving it control over 59% of the total Assembly seats
  • INC has the second-largest majority with 35 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
  • All other parties together have 1 MLA
  • 1 seat is currently vacant
