The Legislative Assembly of Kerala, also known as the Niyamasabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 140 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Assam were held in May 2021.

The 15th Legislative Assembly of Kerala formed post the elections held in May 2021 consists of 140 MLAs. The LDF (Left Democratic Front comprising CPM, CPI, IUML, JD(S), NSC, 5 Independents, etc) alliance secured 99 seats in the 2021 Assembly elections pushing them comfortably cross the majority mark of 71 seats to form the government.

  • Currently, the LDF alliance has 98 seats in the assembly while the UDF alliance has 40 seats while the UDF alliance has 40 seats
  • 1 seat is currently vacant
