The Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh, also known as the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 68 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Shimla, the capital of the state.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh were held in Nov 2022.

The 14th Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh formed post the elections held in Nov 2022 consists of 68 MLAs. INC secured the highest count of 40 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections, taking them comfortably past the majority mark of 35 seats to form the government.

  • The INC now has 34 MLAs in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly giving it control over 50% of the total seats in the Assembly
  • BJP has 25 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
  • All other parties and independent MLAs together account for 3 seats
  • 6 seats are currently vacant
