The Legislative Assembly of Mizoram, also known as the Mizoram Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 40 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Aizawi, the capital of the state.
The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Mizoram were held in Nov 2023.

PARTY COMPOSITION
The 9th Legislative Assembly of Mizoram formed post the elections held in Nov 2023 consists of 40 MLAs. ZPM (Zoram People's Movement) secured a landslide victory in the 2023 Assembly elections winning 27 seats and comfortably crossing the majority threshold of 21 seats to form the government. Subsequently, there were a few changes in the composition of the assembly based on the bye-elections held in specific constituencies.
- The ZPM (Zoram People's Movement) has 27 MLAs in the Mizoram Assembly giving it control over 67.5% of the total seats in the Assembly
- MNF (Mizo National Front) has 10 MLAs and sits in the Opposition
- BJP and INC have 2 and 1 seat respectively

- Speaker: Lalbiakzama (ZPM)
- Chief Minister: Lalduhoma (ZPM)
- Leader of the Opposition: Lalchhandama Ralte (MNF)



MLA PROFILE
- 20% of MLAs in the current Assembly have little to no education (grade 12 or below), in comparison to 25% in the previous Assembly.
- 30% of MLAs in the current Assembly are Graduates, in comparison to 27.5% in the previous Assembly.
- 50% of MLAs in the current Assembly are highly qualified (professionals and above), in comparison to 45% in the previous Assembly.



- There are only 3 women MLAs in the current Assembly
- The women representation in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly is the lowest of all states Assemblies in India
