The Legislative Assembly of Goa, also known as the Goa Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral law making body and consists of 40 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Porvorim.

The term of the Legislative Assembly is five years. However, it may be dissolved earlier than that by the Governor on the request of the Chief Minister. The last legislative Assembly elections in Goa were held in Feb/Mar 2022.

The 8th Legislative Assembly of Goa formed post the elections held in Feb/Mar 2022 consists of 40 MLAs.

  • Despite winning the maximum seats, BJP could not reach the majority mark of 21 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections to form the government on its own.
  • The NDA coalition comprising of BJP, MAG, and 3 Independents won 25 seats collectively helping them reach the majority mark of 21 seats to form the government.
  • The BJP now has 28 seats in the Goa Assembly giving it control over 70% of the total seats
  • The INC now has 3 MLAs in the Goa Assembly giving it control over 7.5% of the total seats and sitting in the Opposition.
