The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) is an index published annually by Transparency International which ranks countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys. The CPI defines corruption as "the misuse of public power for private benefit". CPI currently ranks 180 countries on a scale from 100 (very clean) to 0 (highly corrupt).

Transparency International is a global movement working in over 100 countries to end the injustice of corruption. Its mission is to stop corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels and across all sectors of society.

  • India's score on the Corruptions Perception Index (CPI) has risen from 36 in 2013 to 39 in 2022, thus implying a decrease in corruption levels from 64% to 61% during this period.
  • On the CPI 2022, Denmark occupies the top slot with an overall score of 90, thus implying corruption levels of only 10%. 
  • In comparison to its benchmarked G20 peers, India's score in 2023 is midway on the table with Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, and Russia below it.
