- As of Mar'22, there were 255.7 million students between Class 1 to Class 12 enrolled in various schools across India - a 0.8% increase over the preceding year.
School-wise

- In 2021-22, 54.9% of all school students in India were studying in government schools while 10.4% were studying in govt. aided schools.
- Private schools hosted 32.2% of all students in India in 2021-22, a 6.4% decrease over the previous year.
- 3.1 million students were studying in Madarsas as of Mar'22 - a 2.9% decrease over the previous year.

- As of Mar'22, 2/3rd of all school students in India were in the primary grade-level (I-VIII) while only 15.1% were in secondary grades (IX-X) and 11.2% were pursuing higher secondary studies (XI-XII).
