India has participated in all the Summer Olympic Games held since 1920.

The Winter Olympic Games were created out of the success of the Summer Olympics. The Winter Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event held once every four years for sports practiced on snow and ice. The original five Winter Olympic sports (broken into nine disciplines) were bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, Nordic skiing and skating (consisting of the disciplines figure skating and speed skating). Given India's climatic condition, India is not suitably positioned for Winter Olympics.
