PRODUCTION
- Annual production of foodgrains touched 3157.2 lakh tonnes in 2021-22, a 1.6% increase over the previous year. Production of pulses increased by 8.8% in 2021-22 while rice production increased by 4.8% over the previous year.
- Amongst the major commercial crops, raw jute & mesta had the biggest increase in production (10.4%) in 2021-22, while cotton production declined by 11.5%.
YIELD
- The yield for foodgrains increased by 1% in 2021-22 over the previous year. The yield for all foodgrains combined was 2,419 kg/hectare in 2021-22 in comparison to 2,394 kg/hectare a year ago.
- The yield for wheat dropped by 0.4% in 2021-22 while that of rice increased by 3.4%.
- Amongst the major commercial crops, the yield for soyabean increased by 15.5% in 2021-22 while that of coffee increased by only 0.9%.
