  • Annual production of foodgrains touched 3,305.4 lakh tonnes in 2022-23, a 4.7% increase over the previous year. Production of pulses increased by 0.7% in 2022-23 while rice production increased by 4.7% over the previous year.
  • Amongst the major commercial crops, sugarcane had the biggest increase in production (12.5%) in 2022-23, while the production of raw jute & mesta declined by 6.5%.

  • The yield for foodgrains increased by 3.1% in 2022-23 over the previous year. The yield for all foodgrains combined was 2,419 kg/hectare in 2021-22 in comparison to 2,500 kg/hectare a year ago.
  • The yield for wheat increased by 0.2% in 2022-23 while that of rice increased by 1.6%.
  • Amongst the major commercial crops, the yield for sugarcane decreased by 1.1% in 2022-23 while that of soyabean increased by 7.2%.
